Hi, I am Crystal. I have been learning and playing music for most of my life and love to share my knowledge and enthusiasm for music with others.
I enjoy teaching piano, violin and guitar as well as music theory and composition.
Students of all ages are welcome, whether you are a beginner or would like refresher classes. Lessons are located in a fun and friendly environment at my home studio.
Some of my earliest childhood memories are of sitting at a white toy piano and teaching myself the songs it played. I began learning piano at the Music Learning Centre in Phillip when I was about four years old and continued with lessons and performances there for several years. Just before starting high school, I decided to take up the violin and had four years of lessons under John Gould. John was a wonderful teacher and encouraged me to become a member of a Canberra Youth Music string orchestra and the Maruki Community Orchestra, which he founded in 2005. My father is also a keen musician who introduced me to guitar, so I grew up in a very musical household.
In high school, I practically lived in the music room and was a member of the string ensemble, choir and school band. I regularly performed at the school as well as around the community, including Christmas busking for charity with the string ensemble every year. During college I studied advanced music and resumed piano lessons under Inessa Babajanova, who helped me to improve my musicianship tremendously over those two years.
I went on to do a Bachelor of Science at ANU, however music always remained my true passion. In 2012 I began tutoring with Ramos Music. Through the ongoing support of its owners, Julie and Louis, I quickly realised my love of teaching. They also gave me the opportunity to perform with the Bungendore and District Concert Band at Llewellyn Hall in the ANU School of Music. Since then I have had over four years’ experience teaching different instruments to students of all ages in and around Canberra, most recently including early childhood percussion classes through Music Education Australia.
Lessons are tailor-made for all needs, whether you are learning for fun or want to prepare for exams or performance.
All programs include music theory, technique development, sight-reading and aural awareness.
Give the Gift of Music
I also offer gift certificates for lessons - perfect for birthdays, holidays or simply to encourage someone that has always wanted to take a music class.
